MEDAL SUCCESS - AT JUNIOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PRAGUE
JKAWFS are very please to announce our recent success at the Junior European Championships held in Prague. As always the competition was tough and congratulations to the below participants who attended and done well. Special Congratulations go to Emma Eaton - 1st KYU from Grangemouth Dojo who won a Silver Medal in the Junior Girls Kumite section.
Championships Summary
Well what can I say, a very well organised and attended event. 15 Countries and over 500 competitors. JKAWFS took three students over to Prague, Colin Flynn, Jodie Ferguson and Emma Eaton which is a great achievement in itself. After arriving on the Thursday it was down to hard training on the Friday to get ready for the cempetition on Saturday.
Up first was Jodie in the Kata Section, this went straight to points system and jodie done a really good Empi Kata but just did not get the luck on the poitns and came a respectable 6th. Then it was straight into Kumite this was the first time jodie has competed in Kumite and ended up against last years champion, Jodie just lost out but can be very proud of herself for her effort.
Colin Flynn had the biggest amount of competitors in both Kumite and Kata. He was up against a hungarian for Kata and did an exceptional Heian Nidan but narrowly missed out on the flag system. He then had to get a russian at the Kumited but again did himself proud and should have had the first point. However the competitor that put him out went on to win his team the team kumite gold medal.
Emma Eaton was up next for Kata and she too went straight to the points ststem and done a really good Empi but narrowly missed out and came a respectable 5th. Kumited was up next for Emma and she got a Ukranian and overpowered her opponent with some great points. Emma next competitor was a tough girl from Hungary but again Emma seemed to excel and get the points she needed to reach the final. This guaranteed Emma a medal which was fantastic. She got a really tough opponent in the final but just lost out.
Considering this is the first major tournament these students have attended they done JKAWFS proud, especially Emma. Silver medal on your first tournament. This is a great stepping stone for all of them and will stand them in good stead for the competitions to come.
